The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

Y’all, this girl loves Christmas!!  There’s even a sign in my kitchen that proclaims just that.  Needless to say, I was a teensy bit excited to decorate our home.  This is only the second Christmas we’ve spent in this house, so I’m still trying to figure out how to utilize the decorations I already have and what new things need to be added.  Our old house was a 100 year old 2 story complete with original, wooden spiral staircase.  Two years ago, we moved into a classic Southern brick ranch.  Completely different floor plans!  At the old house, I could decorate it in my sleep, no problem.  New floor plans and different layouts proved a bit more challenging this year.  At one point, I seriously thought I would have to call for back up.  I just could not get it straight in my head how to tie together what I had.  No matter what I did, it just seemed so dis-jointed.

Our main living area is open on both ends to the foyer and our dining room, so I wanted a cohesive design that would flow through all 3 areas.  The problem I ran into was not having enough of one “theme” to carry through.  After a few days of staring at a half-decorated tree in our living room, lightning finally struck and I was able to finish decorating.  Another week of tweaking here and there, and it finally looked like I had envisioned it.  For our living room, I expanded on the “Christmas at the Lodge Theme” that I had used for our den last year.  I combined my “Woodland Tree” from our dining room with the lodge décor and love the result!   At night, with some cedar candles burning, it feels so warm and cozy.  Pictured below are a few from our main living area.

Using a grapevine wreath I already had, I added sprigs of greenery and this adorable little deer head I found at Hobby Lobby.  I was able to use the 40% off coupon since he wasn’t on sale and paid $15 for him!  What a steal!  Buffalo check ribbon, burlap and more greenery round out the mantle.

Adding greenery and some red berries is a fast and easy way to incorporate items you already have into your Christmas décor.  I found the 100% cotton buffalo check throw on Zulily this year.

This tree has all of my Woodland décor plus some Lodge ornaments from last year.  I added a few more pinecones and red berries to fill it out.  Love how the two go together!

The hot cocoa sign was part of a tri-fold room divider.  I used chalkboard paint and hand-lettered it to be part of my décor.  This little tree was decorated with red cardinals, berries and pinecones and the sleigh is vintage from the 1950’s.  Can you believe I found these gorgeous cardinals at the Dollar Tree?!?! I bought all they had!

Another vintage sleigh complete with ice skates!  The “Believe”  banner ties in with my galvanized milk can that I put some Christmas greenery in to add a bit of height to the mantle.

Greenery, sleigh bells and old books make this a perfect vignette for our coffee table.
